WSDOT blacks out traffic cameras for Obama motorcade

Jul 25, 2012, 8:15 AM | Updated: 9:36 am

Drivers who wanted to monitor the traffic as President
Obama’s motorcade traveled from Bellevue to Boeing Field
Wednesday morning were out of luck, as the Washington
State
Department of Transportation blackened its network of
cameras along the route at the request of the Secret
Service.

“They have not asked us to do this before, we don’t know
why. But at this point there may just be something we
don’t
know. And that’s okay with us,” said Jaime Holter, WSDOT
spokesperson.

The motorcade prompted a number of closures as it traveled
along I-405 and across I-90 to Boeing Field just after 9
a.m
It caused far less congestion than Tuesday afternoon when
the presidential motorcade snarled rush hour traffic as
the
WSDOT closed both I-90 and SR 520, along with I-5 in both
directions through downtown Seattle.

“They don’t really have to provide us a (reason) about
what they’re doing and why they’re doing it. This is what
they
asked us to do and so this is what we’re doing,” Holter
said.
