Amazon Web Services (AWS) is in the preliminary stages of developing a data center campus in West Richland, WA. The plan involves a $264 million purchase of the Lewis and Clark Ranch.
The project could include up to 21 buildings on the nearly 1,000 acres purchased, the Tacoma News Tribune reported.
Trammell Crow Co., a Dallas-based real estate firm known for its data center development business, purchased nearly 1,000 acres from the Frank S. Tiegs West Richland estate in July. On Monday, Amazon confirmed to the City of West Richland that the company is the buyer behind the $264 million deal, according to The Tacoma News Tribune.
West Richland’s community update
The City of West Richland shared the news as a “community update” on its Facebook page. An initial three-building phase could create up to 150 full-time jobs and generate millions of dollars in local taxes each year. So far, no permit applications have been filed.
AWS is hosting a public open house on Nov. 19, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Enterprise Middle School in West Richland, the city also noted in the post.
The land of West Richland
Frank S. Tiegs, who died in 2024 at age 66, was a businessman who owned several companies, including Oregon Potato.
He owned about half of the land that makes up West Richland, also known as the Lewis and Clark Ranch.
In 2022, Tiegs declared more than 7,700 acres for development, according to both the Tri-City Herald and the City of West Richland.
