With Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part II hitting U.S. theaters this week, it’s time for super fans to don their costumed best and transform from muggles (that’s non-magic folk to those who haven’t read J.K. Rowling’s books) to witches and wizards.

I’ve been to a few midnight showings of Harry Potter in my day (three to be exact) and there are always costumed folks to gawk at. So this weekend I went to the Cinerama in Seattle, where they were playing a Harry Potter movie marathon, to try and find some Pottermaniacs who would be crazy enough to get into character for the midnight showing of the last film.

Cinerama is gearing up for another sold out midnight showing. Zoe, who was taking ticket stubs, worked there when Part I showed at midnight. She said there were people lined up around the block ahead of time. “There were a lot of Harry Potter look-a-likes, a lot of capes and wands and such.”

And I found quite a few folks planning to dress up this time around. Julie Rowe told me that even though she hasn’t been to a midnight showing of Harry Potter before, she did see Part I in the theater three times. And when she heads to a midnight showing on Thursday, she’ll be dressed up, “I’m trying to choose between doing the traditional school uniform like you see with the gray cashmere and the gray skirt with the pleats – or doing something more wizard-y, like a dress robe.”

More wizard-y? That’s definitely how Bepasha, is leaning. We talked as she wore her own Gryffindor scarf, and held a replica of Hermione’s wand. She was planning on finding a dress robe to wear with her friends, and go as a normal Hogwarts student.

If you’re thinking about going for a midnight showing, and sitting next to the carefully costumed, you don’t have to be dressed up to enjoy the film. Chad has been to a couple different Harry Potter midnight showings, “the thing that is fun though, is the crowd that goes to an opening night showing like that are die-hard fans, so people are really respectful during the movie, they’re really paying attention and they’re really excited.”

But one guy I met, Joe, out does them all. I spied him in the lobby of the Cinerama, wearing a Slytherin styled tie. When he went to midnight showing of the Deathly Hallows Part I, he and his friends dressed up as the house dubbed the most sinister of them all, Slytherin. But this time around, they’re planning on stepping up their costumes. “We’re planning on spicing it up a bit. There is a big battle at the end of this one, so we’re going to do some battle wounds and scarring.”

I won’t be dressed up as a Hogwarts student on Thursday, but I’ll be out with my camera to take photos of those that are, so be sure to check back on MyNorthwest.com on Friday. And if you want to see the splendor of a fanatic’s movie – you can buy tickets to see a midnight showing here, right on MyNorthwest.com.
