Seattle just barely made it in the top 10 “Best Places to Live” this year.

U.S. News and World Report ranks Seattle as the 10th best place to live with an overall score of 7.2 out of 10.

Seattle took sixth in 2017. Sixth place goes to Portland this year, with an overall score of 7.3.

A total of 125 cities across the country were ranked based on desirability, value, the job market, quality of life, and net migration. Seattle’s desirability came in at a whopping 9.0. The job market received a score of 7.9.

Portland’s desirability score was a perfect 10. Quality of life was ranked slightly higher than Seattle. U.S. News calls the city a “well-rounded region.”

As U.S. News puts it:

“Portland’s population toes the line between an innocent playfulness and a shameless wild side.”

Though Seattle’s upsides are abundant, including the close proximity to nature, the city is dinged for several things. That includes the high cost of living that’s pushing low-income residents out. And don’t forget the “ghastly” traffic.

Homeless student population hits all-time high

The top 10 “Best Places to Live” include:

  • 1. Austin, Texas
  • 2. Colorado Springs, Colorado
  • 3. Denver, Colorado
  • 4. Des Moines, Iowa
  • 5. Fayetteville, Arkansas
  • 6. Portland, Oregon
  • 7. Huntsville, Alabama
  • 8. Washington, D.C.
  • 9. Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minnesota
  • 10. Seattle, Washington
