Patty Murray condemns Trump for posts calling to arrest, ‘hang’ lawmakers

Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) is sounding the alarm over President Donald Trump’s latest social media posts.

Trump shared videos calling for lawmakers to be arrested after they told service members that no one must follow illegal orders.

“I was disturbed — genuinely horrified — to see President Trump call for members of Congress to be arrested for simply stating the fact that no one is above the law — not even the president. It is infuriating,” Murray said in the video. “It is enough to make your blood boil. I mean — I can’t think of anything more un-American, at least I couldn’t until Trump went further and reposted a call to hang members of Congress.”

Trump’s rhetoric toward Democratic lawmakers is a disgrace—it’s not even close to acceptable coming from an American President.

She is urging Republicans to show courage and make clear the president is not above the law, stressing that political violence has no place in American democracy.

Multiple lawmakers urge others to ‘refuse illegal orders’

Several Democratic lawmakers were seen in a video on social media Wednesday urging military members and intelligence officials to “refuse illegal orders.”

“Our laws are clear. You can refuse illegal orders. You must refuse illegal orders. No one has to carry out orders that violate the law or our Constitution,” the lawmakers stated. “We know this is hard. And that it’s a difficult time to be a public servant. But whether you’re serving in the CIA? The Army. Our Navy. The Air Force. Your vigilance is critical. And know that we have your back. Because now, more than ever. The American people need you. We need you to stand up for our laws, our Constitution, and who we are as Americans.”

The video never mentioned Trump by name, but the president later responded in multiple posts on Truth Social.

“This is really bad, and Dangerous to our Country. Their words cannot be allowed to stand. SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR FROM TRAITORS!!! LOCK THEM UP??? President DJT,” one post read.

“SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, punishable by DEATH!” another post from Trump read. He later reposted a post on Truth Social on Wednesday that read, “HANG THEM GEORGE WASHINGTON WOULD.”

Murray’s video was in response to the flurry of posts from the president.

House Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries, Democratic whip Katherine Clark, and Democratic caucus chair Pete Aguilar released a joint statement condemning Trump’s remarks.

“Donald Trump must immediately delete these unhinged social media posts and recant his violent rhetoric before he gets someone killed,” the statement read.

The White House was adamant that Trump does not want to see Democratic politicians killed.

“Talking about the rhetoric, it does need to be toned down. And you would think at some point, we have seen this happen. What would make or encourage you to say, ‘Hey, this needs to stop?'” KIRO host Gee Scott asked on “The Gee and Ursula Show.” “But Donald Trump doesn’t stop. No. That’s the point. And again, it needs more people, and I will say more people in the Republican Party, in Congress, to have backbone.”
