More than 30 major Seattle companies sign letter demanding Wilson, City Council take action on public safety

More than 30 major players in Seattle’s business community have signed a letter urging Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson and the City Council to take action on public safety.
Business leaders ranging from Microsoft’s Brad Smith to Seattle Mariners’ John Stanton to Costco’s Ron Vachris to Alaska Air Group’s Ben Minicucci are demanding an overhaul of the city’s public safety efforts.
The letter was posted on the Seattle Metro Chamber of Commerce’s website Thursday.
The executives are requesting an increase in public safety investments, activation of the CCTV camera system, a public safety action plan, faster 911 call response times, the arrest of illegal drug users who repeatedly refuse treatment and shelter, and a camping ban within 250 feet of a park or playground, among other items.
“A credible public-safety plan and a budget that protects the investments behind it are inseparable,” the letter stated. “Seattle voters have made it clear that they expect both. We are ready to be partners. We welcome the opportunity to meet with you and your staff to discuss how the city can move from planning to action on these priorities.”
Other corporations involved include Zillow Group, Puget Sound Energy, Weyerhaeuser, Virginia Mason Franciscan Health, BECU, Starbucks, Nordstrom, the Seattle Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce, and more.
