Western Washington gets one more taste of summer before cooler temperatures, light rain, and chilly nights settle in.
Temperatures could reach 70 degrees on Thursday, especially around Olympia and the Chehalis Valley, said Kayla Mazurkiewicz, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Seattle. Seattle has a shot at reaching 70 degrees, too.
“For right now, today definitely looks like the last warm day in a while,” Mazurkiewicz said.
Chilly nights, morning fog return as temperatures drop
A front moving through Thursday night into Friday will bring light rain and occasional breezes. By the weekend, highs could struggle to reach 60 degrees.
Overnight temperatures will fall into the mid-40s, with some spots near the Cascade foothills potentially dipping into the mid-30s.
The weekend looks mostly dry, with morning fog and clouds giving way to some afternoon clearing. Another system could bring more rain and wind Tuesday, though Mazurkiewicz said there are no serious wind concerns in the near term.
As for the fog that has been lingering lately, there’s a nickname for that.
“We have the saying that it’s kind of like Fogtober here,” Mazurkiewicz said.
Cool conditions, moisture, and limited air movement help fog linger in the mornings, she said.
And for anyone waiting for a brown lawn to turn green again, more rain could help later this month.
“Hopefully, by the end of the month, you’ll start to see some green,” Mazurkiewicz said.
