There is a slight possibility of seeing the northern lights in Washington Wednesday night.

The aurora borealis viewing line cuts through the middle of the state, as shown on the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) Aurora Forecast.

However, the green shade, indicating the likelihood of the aurora, is faint.

Tips for catching the northern lights

The best chance of seeing the northern lights is outside of the city, away from light pollution.

Timing is also important; try to get outside between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m.

Eager viewers should head to Canada, where the likelihood of seeing the celestial phenomenon is much higher.

The last time there was a G4 storm, which can push the aurora much farther south than normal, was Jan. 19.
