Seattle area braces for nearly two weeks of rain starting Friday

After a relatively dry Thursday, rain is abound for the next two weeks throughout the Puget Sound region.

By Thursday night, there is a 60% chance of rain, according to The Weather Channel. Light rain is expected to hit the region early morning Friday, with 11 of the following 13 days having a 55% or higher chance of rain. The only reprieve from rain could happen on Saturday, March 7, and Tuesday, March 10. An uptick of rain is expected to begin this Sunday.

For Thursday, rain is settling over the region south of Seattle and east of Burien, primarily hitting Renton, Mercer Island, Issaquah, and Maple Valley.

“Some convergence zone showers now with a few showers during the day,” KIRO 7 meteorologist Nick Allard stated. “We’ll be more dry than wet later today, but light rain does return tomorrow with weekend showers.”

Some showers early next week could turn into a mix of rain and snow in the Puget Sound. Additionally, several isolated, weak thunderstorms could occur along the coast now that western Washington has entered “thunderstorm season.”

Daylight Saving Time begins this Sunday, followed by the region’s induction of Spring, which is a little more than two weeks away. Seattle’s first 7 p.m. sunset of 2026 will be Sunday, March 8.

Winter weather advisory for elevations of 3,500 feet

Snow is expected to continue falling in the Cascades on Thursday, especially in areas above 3,500 feet.

A Winter Weather Advisory was issued for areas in the mountains above 3,500 until 10 a.m. Thursday, as weather experts believe, there will be seven to nine inches of snow.
