Seattle meteorologist Scott Sistek predicts strong start to WA ski season

Fall weather in Seattle is picking up as we get through the bulk of November. With cold winter weather on the horizon, how much snow will be seen in Washington?

Meteorologist Scott Sistek of the Emerald City Weather blog revealed the mid-term weather forecast for the rest of November in Seattle, and how the wet, cooler-than-average temperatures will be beneficial for Washington’s mountains on “Seattle’s Morning News” on KIRO Newsradio.

“Average amounts of precipitation, but it’s cooler than normal. That’s good news for the mountains, good for the snow pack, and skiers. Good for getting our ski season off on the right foot,” Sistek said. “For skiers, there’s some optimism here. We’re looking at higher than average odds of getting a pretty good start to the ski season.”

In the short term, before Thanksgiving, Seattle can expect a normal November with below-average temperatures, accompanied by pockets of rain and minor winds.

“This system doesn’t look too windy. We’re watching for an area of low pressure to spin up somewhere off the coast. We were thinking it might come our way, but recent projections show it’s more likely to go into Oregon or Northern California, which gets us off the hook,” Sistek said. “It’s not really a big storm anyway for Seattle, probably just a blustery day. A little bit breezy, nothing worse than what will be coming this week. Sort of like a usual November, a little rain at times.”
