Weather improving just in time for Labor Day

We’re heading into a pretty nice Labor Day weekend, but there are still a few showers to keep an eye on — especially around the mountains.

A few pockets of showers are drifting from the mountains into the lowlands Friday morning. Rainfall will be light, but you may start the day with a few showers and mostly cloudy skies. We’ll dry out for most of the day, with partly cloudy skies and highs in the lower 70s.

The mountains will have a better chance of a few showers and thunderstorms Friday afternoon, and a couple could drift into the lowlands Friday night. Any thunderstorms should stay mainly in the mountains.

Once we lose daytime heating Friday night, the threat for thunderstorms will fade.

By Saturday morning, most areas should be dry, although a few sprinkles or pockets of drizzle are possible, mainly near the mountains.

Saturday looks very similar. The upper-level low will still be spinning nearby, keeping some instability around. The best chance for showers and thunderstorms will again be in the mountains during the afternoon and early evening.

For the lowlands, it’s mostly a partly cloudy day with just an outside chance of a shower, especially Saturday afternoon and evening.

Bottom line: it’s a pretty good holiday weekend in western Washington.

Highs will stay in the low 70s around Seattle with a mix of clouds and sunshine, and most of the time will be dry.

The upper-level low finally moves away Sunday, allowing for a little more sunshine along with some clouds.

Labor Day looks similar, with temperatures near average — generally in the low to mid 70s around Seattle.

We could see another increase in rain chances toward the end of next week.
