There's still plenty of work to be done in Seattle. A rash of recent tagging throughout the city is making Seattle look increasingly like Los Angeles, KTTH's David Boze said.

Crime in Seattle’s south precinct is down by 25 percent compared to this time last year.

Property crime has dropped by about 26 percent; violent crime is down 24 percent; robbery is down 36 percent; and car prowls are down 37 percent, KING 5 reports.

But there’s still plenty of work to be done. A rash of recent tagging throughout the city is making Seattle look increasingly like Los Angeles, 770 KTTH’s David Boze pointed out.

“And we don’t want to become that,” Boze said. In Los Angeles, there is barbed wire over signs to try and prevent the constant vandalism going on, he added.

“We don’t want to become a city that tolerates that kind of ugliness and we don’t want the additional crime that that inspires, I hope,” he said.

The south precinct covers more than 20 neighborhoods such as Beacon Hill, Mount Baker, SoDo.

Though crime is reportedly down in the south precinct, the amount of shots fired in Seattle is higher than it’s been in three years at this point in time. The amount of guns confiscated by police is also up, according to the Seattle Police Department.

No word yet on how successful a crackdown in the 9.5 blocks of downtown has been. Police reported 95 people were arrested last month, but only 11 of them were enrolled in a diversion program.
