Rantz: After UW suspensions, pro-Hamas extremists vow midday protest

The University of Washington (UW) said it suspended 21 students who they say participated in Monday’s pro-Hamas, antisemitic occupation of the Interdisciplinary Engineering Building. They’ve also been banned from all UW campuses. Now, the suspended student group behind the occupation vows to hold a midday protest on the Seattle campus.
“We are calling the UW community and students to rally in support of the students targeted by UW administration. DROP THE CHARGES! HANDS OFF OUR STUDENTS!” Students United for Palestinian Equality & Return (SUPER UW) said in an Instagram post.
The protest is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Thursday at Gerberding Hall.
How the UW administration responds to more antisemitic students and outsiders descending upon Gerberding Hall will be important. Already under federal scrutiny for Monday’s occupation and previously emboldening antisemitic activists, the UW is under pressure of losing federal funds for failing to protect Jewish students and faculty.
It remains unclear if UW’s sudden shift in how it deals with the antisemites is due simply to fear of losing federal funds.
The activists are pro-Hamas and anti-Israel, not pro-Palestinian

Thirty-one people were arrested for the Monday occupation and subsequent barricade following a prolonged standoff between protesters and law enforcement. UW said the activists did $1 million worth of damage.
Boeing donated approximately $10 million for the construction of the $90 million new engineering building. But because Boeing holds contracts with Israel, activists accuse it of being complicit in a made-up “genocide.”
The activists pretend to be “pro-Palestinian,” but they’re actually anti-Israel. In a manifesto from the group, activists celebrated the terrorist attack against Jews on Oct. 7.
“We are taking this building amidst the current and renewed wave of the student Intifada, following the uprising of student action for Palestine after the heroic victory of Al-Aqsa Flood on Oct. 7, which shattered the illusion of zionist-imperialist domination and brought Palestine to the forefront for all justice-loving people of the world,” the extremists’ manifesto claimed.
