A textbook example of liberal hypocrisy

On Friday, I covered the story of the photo gallery at The Stranger newspaper’s website. They posted pictures of several houses on the Eastside that had Republican yard signs. With the photos, they posted the addresses of the “Hell Houses” (see blog post below).
Well, because of our coverage, several websites picked up the story this weekend. And, sometime Saturday, the story simply disappeared from The Stranger’s website.
Tonight, they posted an explanation on their blog: “On Saturday morning the piece exploded on right-wing blogs, and death threats were made on our staff. What began as political satire changed from reasonably intelligent, irreverent discourse to something ugly. We do not want harm to come to anyone—to those who live in the houses or to our staff (from right-wing nuts)—so we’ve taken the piece down.”
I’ve long said that the some of the most hateful, intolerant people in this country are some liberals toward people who do not think like them. Given that there has been a documented trend of vandalism in this region against people with GOP yard signs, what made The Stranger think it was reasonable to print the addresses of people who were simply exercising their right to political expression?
I said Friday, and continue to believe today, that The Stranger was hoping to incite vandalism against those homeowners for their crime of daring to support the GOP in the Seattle region.
The Stranger staffers who made this decision to print the addresses had no regard for the sanctity and security of these homes. Their true hypocrisy is revealed with today’s blog post when they say they pulled the item because “death threats were made against our staff”.
The possibility of them inciting violence against the homeowners was perfectly acceptable to them. When their staffers were allegedly threatened, that was not acceptable.
As I said on my show Friday, the primary reason for a free press was so we could be watchdogs of government. But in the twisted minds of Seattle’s alternative newspaper, they used their first amendment rights to be a “watchdog” of citizens who dare to not be liberal in this region. Only when their staffers were threatened did they decide to take down this piece.
As I said in my headline, it’s a textbook example of liberal hypocrisy. We, of course, will make every effort to get someone at The Stranger to come on my show Monday to discuss this incident.
