At Least Quote Limbaugh Accurately

There are a bunch of inaccurate Rush Limbaugh quotes floating around. It is clearly wrong to misquote someone for the purpose of damaging his reputation, and it appears that several, including the slavery quote, are bogus.

Here are the controversial quotes I was able to verify, using FactCheck.org, Snopes.com, and Limbaugh’s own transcripts:

THE SOTOMAYOR QUOTE:
Sotomayor “doesn’t have any intellectual depth. She’s an angry woman, she’s a bigot. She’s a racist.”

–May 27 2009 show. He went on to say he could support her nomination if she “has sensibility toward life in a legal sense.”

THE OBAMA QUOTE
“I would be honored if the Drive-By Media headlined me all day long: ‘Limbaugh: I Hope Obama Fails.'”

–January 16, 2009 show. He explained it was aimed at Obama’s dangerous philosophy of government.

THE PELOSI MIS-QUOTE
Original Pelosi quote on tea parties: “I think they are Astroturf. You be the judge … carrying swastikas and symbols like that to a town meeting on health care.”

Limbaugh show, August 6, 2009: “You have the Democrat Speaker of the House saying that people, citizens who are concerned about health care are now wearing swastikas. She’s basically saying that we are Nazis. She is saying that the people who oppose this are Nazis.”

FACT CHECK: “Pelosi did not actually accuse opponents of being neo-Nazis; that’s just the way Limbaugh and others chose to interpret her phrase, “carrying swastikas and symbols like that.” It is clear from the images in hand that the anti-Obama protesters were the ones accusing others of Nazi-like tendencies. And Pelosi turns out to be right.”

MEXICAN QUOTE:
Limbaugh, 1993: “If you are unskilled and uneducated, your job is going south. Skilled workers, educated people are going to do fine ’cause those are the kinds of jobs Nafta is going to create. If we are going to start rewarding no skills and stupid people, I’m serious, let the unskilled jobs that take absolutely no knowledge whatsoever to do — let stupid and unskilled Mexicans do that work.”

BLOODS AND CRIPS QUOTE:
Limbaugh Jan 19 2007: “NFL all too often looks like a game between the Bloods and the Crips without any weapons”

JESSE JACKSON QUOTE:
“Have you ever noticed how all composite pictures of wanted criminals resemble Jesse Jackson”

BONE QUOTE:
“Take that bone out of your nose and call back”

— from the 70’s when he was a DJ known as Jeff Christie. Says it wasn’t intended to be racist.

DONOVAN McNABB QUOTE:
“I think the media has been very desirous that a black quarterback do well. They’re interested in black coaches and black quarterbacks doing well. I think there’s a little hope invested in McNabb and he got a lot of credit for the performance of his team that he really didn’t deserve.”
