Fans may have been understanding of Kam Chancellor’s holdout in the lead up to the season, but the tide may be turning.

“Right now, I’m going to blame Chancellor. If we don’t go to the Super Bowl and Chancellor doesn’t join the team, I’m going to blame him,” said Tom Tangney on the Ron and Don Show.

Don O’Neill also expressed his disappointment.

“We have to understand, and Kam has to understand, that we have money tied up in the salary cap right now in Kam Chancellor that we could have spent on Golden Tate,” Don said, referencing other players that the Seahawks could have put their money toward.

“Golden Tate is not here right now, and we would love to have him here. One of the reasons he is not here, or Tony McDaniel is not here, or some of the big boys that went to Jacksonville are not here, is because they gave $28 million to Kam Chancellor,” he said. “Bottom line, if he came back this week, I don’t think he would help the Seahawks at all. If he came back to play, at this point, you’re better off putting Dion Bailey in there.”

Bailey has suffered sharp criticism after failing to stop a game-tying touchdown during the fourth quarter against the Rams. It was a touchdown critics say Chancellor would have prevented. It was also a touchdown that ultimately led to a 34-31 loss in overtime.

However, Tangney said that Bailey had a good game overall, and doesn’t hold it against the him. But he is getting impatient with Chancellor.

“It’s not just that we have a team and one of our best players is holding out. We have the best team in football, we could be going for three straight [NFC championships],” Tangney said.

Tangney said he does understand Kam’s position, to a point.

“I think both sides have points to argue … I understand that Kam Chancellor’s problem is that he realized that when you sign a contract, the team doesn’t commit to you, but you commit to that team. So he knows for the next three years what he’s getting paid, and the Seahawks have to pay him, unless they decide, ‘You know what, you lost a step so we aren’t going to pay you for a fourth year.'”

Tom noted the drama with quarterback Russell Wilson ended in time for the regular season.

“Is it just two sides being extremely prideful?” KIRO Radio’s Ron Upshaw chimed in. “This is what I don’t get &#8212 Kam said they were $900,000 apart, which to any of us would be a huge amount of money. He’s already losing $267,000 a week by not doing anything, he‘s already up to $2 million if they enforce all the fines. What are we talking about here?”
