The reaction to Mitt Romney’s pick of Paul Ryan as his running mate keeps coming. And conservatives are ecstatic with the selection.

“What Romney’s got here is he has somebody very popular among the grassroots, has great political assets, a great fighter. He’s absolutely superb at arguing the issues and attacking opponents without being a jerk, without being scary. He’s just an earnest fellow, young and charismatic,” says David Boze, host on 770 KTTH the Truth.

Boze says the Congressman’s leadership on a GOP budget that includes sharp spending cuts and reductions in benefits such as Medicaid endears him to conservatives and gives the Romney campaign a clear contrast to President Obama and Vice President Joe Biden.

“The choice of Ryan makes it clear that Romney is also running to do something,” Boze says.

While the specter of Sarah Palin still lingers, Boze says there’s no comparison between the relatively unknown former Alaska Governor and Ryan, a rising GOP star.

He points out Ryan was first elected to Congress at 28, and has been a leader on key issues since.

“There would be no Katie Couric interview with Paul Ryan that you would find embarrassing because Paul Ryan has been in the midst of the national debate now for the better part of a decade. And Paul Ryan has been in the midst of the political fray even longer than that,” Boze says.

While some Democrats say the Ryan pick plays into their hands, Boze points to the Republican’s popularity in his home state of Wisconsin as a sign he can appeal to voters on both sides of the aisle.

“His district is more liberal than he is and yet he is winning an overhwelming majority in his district. So it shows that he has some pretty powerful persuasive powers. So that’s what makes Mitt Romney and company very pleased,” Boze says.
