Cancer treatment for KING’s Jesse Jones

Dec 16, 2010, 6:09 PM | Updated: Mar 28, 2011, 3:46 pm

One of the most distinctive reporters in Seattle, KING 5’s Jesse Jones, will be gone from the screen for several weeks while he undergoes treatment for cancer.

JesseJones was first diagnosed with kidney cancer in 2007, according to a news release from the station. At that time, doctors removed two tumors. In a routine checkup recently, doctors found the cancer had spread to Jones’ lungs. In January, he will start immunotherapy to eradicate the cancerous cells. Doctors say his cancer is still in its early stages and should be easy to treat. His news director agrees.

“Jesse will take on this challenge like he faces the daily challenges his job presents,” says Mark Ginther, Executive News Director of KING TV. “His passion and drive as a reporter make a difference in the lives of a number of people across Western Washington. He’s an awfully determined guy, so I think his cancer is in deep trouble.”

Jones is a consumer reporter with a regular segment called “Get Jesse.” Viewers know him for the way he ends his reports. Here he teaches Conan O’Brien his unique sign off:

Jesse is both a teddy bear and a tough reporter. Wishing you the best!
