Dori: Why are homeless camps not checking for warrants?

I’m starting to get angry. I’m like the volcano on Hawaii’s Big Island — I’m ready to blow up.

RELATED: Woman raped in Ballard dealership’s bathroom

On Wednesday’s show, we talked about the horrific story of the homeless man who raped a 40-year-old woman in the bathroom of a Ballard car dealership while her car was being serviced. The alleged rapist had an outstanding warrant for breaking into a house in Magnolia two years ago.

We were told that the homeless camps don’t check for outstanding warrants. The alleged rapist came up from Texas to the land of milk and honey for drug addicts, Seattle. He broke into and squatted in a Magnolia home, selling off the residents’ belongings. And he got to stay in a homeless encampment after that with no consequences.

The homelessness industry is such a scam, and the people involved are not interested in helping people’s lives. If you are spending tax dollars on services for people, why wouldn’t you check them for warrants, just to see who we’re giving our tax dollars to?

The SHARE (Seattle Housing and Resource Effort) Facebook page advertises a new encampment near North Bend; they say on the page that they do warrant and sex offender checks. Are they lying to communities when they say they do warrant checks? Because they told KOMO 4 that they do not check warrants at the Ballard camp where this guy lived.

There was a picture of alleged rapist Chris Teel in a Seattle Times article on the Ballard Nickelsville, taken last November. He was living in that camp receiving tax-dollar services, and it turns out that he had an outstanding warrant for breaking into a house. And then he went on to — almost assuredly, but to be correct, we’ll say allegedly — raped a woman in Ballard. It is the policies of no warrant checks that are putting monsters like this out onto the streets.

Organizations like SHARE, WHEEL, and LIHI are making big money but won’t answer legitimate questions. It’s reflective of the kind of character of who is involved in the homeless industry. When we called SHARE co-founder Scott Morrow for an interview, he hung up on us. So there is apparently no way to get these answers.

Then there is the matter of when the alleged rape was made public record. The police report was written at 10:30 a.m. on Monday. But the crime was not reported in SPD’s police blotter that day. It was the same day as the critical head tax vote to expand the homelessness industry and effectively bring more criminals to the Puget Sound.

According to SPD Public Records Officer Sean Whitcomb, holding back that information until Wednesday had nothing to do with the head tax. I don’t fully believe that. I don’t think it should have been withheld from the public, and I certainly think the city council members should have at least had the guts to factor that into their vote. They are expanding the number of people coming into our region, and a small percentage of them are going to be violent criminals like Chris Teel.

Nobody is allowed to ask? No cop is allowed to look at the photo caption of that article and say, “Hey that guy has a warrant — let’s go pick him up?” That is the culture that led to a woman getting raped while getting her car serviced on a Monday morning. And again, I’m putting all this on the homeless industry, not the cops — their hands are tied by the city.
