We have exclusively learned that the person who allegedly stabbed a father while riding the light rail with his son its in this country illegally.

The alleged stabber, Nery Jovani Acevedo-Sanchez, had several previous encounters with law enforcement, including two domestic violence convictions and a conviction for violating a protection order.

If we actually cooperated with federal law enforcement instead of having contempt for them and cutting them off from accessing our jail records, this father would never have been stabbed in the chest in front of his son. Thankfully, the dad will be alright.

Initially, the King County prosecutor charged this as a fourth-degree assault. That is a misdemeanor. Plunging a knife into a stranger was being called a misdemeanor. Then the prosecutor upgraded it to second-degree assault, which is a felony.

Dori: With crime upsurge and transit mania, light rail violence no wonder

But, the prosecutor’s office and King County Superior Court are still not planning on cooperating with Immigration and Customs Enforcement, as per county policy. So here you have a guy who is in this country illegally, who has a long criminal history, who has stabbed another human being on a light rail train, and there are still no plans to work with ICE or turn this guy over for deportation after he serves any sentence he receives.

The local ICE office told us:

Sanctuary policies not only provide a refuge for illegal aliens, but they also shield criminal aliens who prey on people in their own and other communities. ICE maintains that cooperation by local law enforcement is an indispensable component of promoting public safety. It’s unfortunate that current local and state laws and policies tie the hands of local law enforcement agencies that want and need to work with ICE to promote public safety by holding criminals accountable and providing justice and closure for their victims.

This is another case in which Jay Inslee, Dow Constantine, and Jenny Durkan, with their proclamations of sanctuary, have blood on their collective hands. This is a stabbing that would not have happened if the alleged assailant had been deported in any of his previous encounters with law enforcement.

This is what we need to recognize. When our policies keep illegal immigrants with violent criminal histories here in the region, the politicians are responsible for whatever crimes are committed after the criminals could have been deported.
