YouTube ‘Party Bros’ want to bring ‘surfer dude’ antics to Seattle City Council

If you’re exercising your free speech at a city council meeting one day and you see Chad Kroeger and J.T. Parr — AKA the “Party Bros” — walk in, be warned. You will be in for an experience in local politics quite unlike anything you’ve ever witnessed.

Known for bringing their ‘surfer dude,’ party-hard lifestyle to the public comment section of city council meetings throughout the L.A. area, the Party Bros have advocated for the Manhattan Beach water treatment plant to be named the “Britney Spears ‘Toxic'” water treatment plant in honor of the Spears hit; for the Los Angeles City Council to not outlaw house parties in the Hollywood Hills because parties help with confidence development; and for San Clemente to install a statue honoring late “Fast and the Furious” actor Paul Walker, because the movie series helped Kroeger get over a sixth-grade breakup.

The antics are all documented on Kroeger’s YouTube channel, Chad Goes Deep.

With speech and manner reminiscent of the title characters in “Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure,” Kroeger first takes the podium, unabashedly laying out his grand idea. Afterward — just when the council thinks it’s rid of him — Parr follows.

“I lay down the proposal and J.T. drops the hammer,” Kroeger explained to KIRO Radio’s Dori Monson.

In recent videos, Parr has taken more of a musical role, singing Spears’ “Toxic” and Natasha Bedingfield’s “Unwritten.”

“I’ve just been trying to live out certain dreams of mine in conjunction with causes,” said Parr, who has put out demos to further his vocal career.

The bros’ latest cause was to try to get the Manhattan Beach City Council to establish a second Independence Day, in order to give people another opportunity for parties. In his council presentation, Kroeger stated that the Founding Fathers “built the Fourth of July around partying,” and that the reason the colonists threw tea in Boston Harbor was to “make room for more kegs.”

“It’s just the one holiday of the year that America says, ‘Alright, time for you dudes to get after it and bond hard and make stuff explode’ — we love it,” Kroeger told Dori. “It happens so fast, it goes by so fast, and then you’re like, ‘Aw, I gotta wait another year.'”

Ideally, he would like to see a Fourth-of-July-esque holiday come around on a monthly basis.

So far, none of the Party Bros’ proposals have panned out, but they’re not worried.

“The good thing is, there’s momentum behind them in terms of people being on board,” Parr said. “But the government is the last domino to solve, and it is righteously posted up.”

“But we definitely have the popular vote, we have that on our sides,” Kroeger added. “So we’ve just got to bring it to the Senate and be like, ‘What up, dudes? Listen to the people.'”

The Party Bros would like to branch out from Southern California and visit the Pacific Northwest to bring their political activism to the Seattle City Council.

“We’ll be there, my friend,” Parr promised Dori.
