Local singer/songwriter Abby London has just released a music video to help convince voters to get rid of the Seattle City Council members and start reclaiming the city.

The music video for “50 Ways to Boot the Council” — a play on Paul Simon’s “50 Ways to Leave Your Lover” — features footage of notable crimes in the area, such as the man who ripped a sunroof off a car and used it as a weapon, as well as of infamous moments for the Seattle City Council, including the moment Councilmember Debora Juarez spoke rudely to a public commentator who asked that council members look up from their phones during public comment.

London joined Dori in the studio to talk about her inspiration for the song.

“I have been very consumed with dealing with crime in my neighborhood, North Seattle — this last week in particular, we don’t even have time to go over everything that’s happened,” she said. “My neighbors are getting terrorized; I’ve got one neighbor who is guarding his condo complex from 2 a.m. to 4 a.m. with flashlights because it’s gotten so bad.”

She said that the park near her apartment is full of open drug use and defecation. When she approached one drug user to ask if he needed help, he yelled at her to go away, adding that she was lucky he didn’t use violence against her.

“I think people are sick and tired of the crime and the inaction, and having council members who aren’t going to speak out about crime, and then to even go one further and slam police,” she said, in reference to Councilmember Kshama Sawant calling exonerated Seattle police officers murderers.

She is confident that every council member up for re-election — Lisa Herbold (District 1), Sawant (District 3), and Juarez (District 5) — can be ousted this fall. Mike O’Brien (District 6), Sally Bagshaw (District 7), and Council President Bruce Harrell (District 2) are not running for re-election.

What do you think? Has her crooning convinced you to fill out your primary ballots?
