A trip back in time — see Dori’s 2006 ‘Stupid Prices’ commercial

Oct 30, 2019, 5:19 PM

It was like stepping in a time machine when Dave Wyman bought up the “Stupid Prices” commercial of the early 2000s during his weekly chat on the Dori Monson Show.

The reference came out of a discussion on college athletes doing TV endorsements.

“What was the commercial you did?” he asked Dori. “You like that, when people bring it up.”

See how Dori Monson has changed since 1995

The commercial Dave was thinking of was for discount chain Stupid Prices — and it was all the way back in 2006.

Dori Monson Show mega-fan Matt Gilbert found the commercial on YouTube. Dori had not even known that it still existed.

The 30-second ad features Dori relaxing on an armchair and explaining why he loves to shop at Stupid Prices — all while winking at viewers.

“I gave a little knowing nod, like I was some smooth television pitch-man,” Dori observed.

It was a moment that Matt Gilbert captured in a GIF and shared on Twitter.

Later on in the ad, the 2006 Dori moves to a rack of kids’ clothing and exclaims how great it is to buy clothing for the whole family at Stupid Prices.

“My kids were mortified,” Dori recalled. “Because they said, ‘Our friends are going to think we get all our clothes at Stupid Prices.'”

While the kids’ clothing may not have come from Stupid Prices, the rest of Dori’s statements in the commercial were fairly accurate.

“I wish they were still around,” he said. “I bought so much furniture at this place.”
