What we’re seeing now is the destruction of trust. Start with the source, The New York Times. A 100 percent pro-Clinton, 100 percent anti-Conservative publication that printed an article based on one source about James Comey and President Donald Trump.

RELATED: Michael Medved says Comey memo could lead to impeachment

The story is about a memo that former FBI director James Comey reportedly wrote about President Trump asking him to drop an investigation. It’s a completely believable claim that Comey took notes on his conversations with President Trump. The article said that the president said he hoped Comey could “come off” of the Flynn investigation. Then the pundits say that the president demanded that the investigation be ended. That’s not exactly what he did. This is linguistic legalism.

This all makes us doubt news services and leads to mistrust. We’ve built a circle of distrust for ourselves because of our party politics.

I find The New York Times piece extremely disturbing. But the persistence and insistence to having loyalties to the letter “R” and the letter “D” is killing us. Republicans say we need to fight this, but why? We don’t know what happened yet. We need to have an investigation.

We need to pursue this for the sake of the country, not the sake of a political party.
