We didn’t have a government shutdown … but we will

May 4, 2017, 3:59 PM

The government will one day shut down, because we will run out of money. You can either have a controlled government shutdown or an out-of-control shutdown.

RELATED: Washington state Democrats’ budget has no clothes

The use of a government shutdown is always blamed on the Republicans, even if it’s the Democrats who cause it. What the GOP does not understand is that all eyes are on Washington D.C. Paul Ryan, who used to have zeal and passion, should have said the following recently:

“We cannot continue to spend above our means. We should have a bi-partisan approach to spending. I ask Senator Pelosi to come up and name the percentage that the rich should be paying in taxes, based on their income. I’d like her to explain to the American people how the level of tax that she proposes, with no cuts in spending, will deliver us from eventual financial collapse.”

That’s what he should have said.

I will invite any Democrats to step forward and answer a simple question. The government has promised to spend $200 trillion dollars — where do we get this money from? The combined wealth of Americans doesn’t even equal that figure.

The United States is too good of a country to be a debtor nation. If we don’t change the system, everyone’s checks will stop.

The government will shut down one day.
