I have solved Arizona’s problem

The problem with Arizona’s immigration law is that it could make Arizona like France. Where the cops can demand your papers at any time. Even CBS News Legal Analyst Andrew Cohen says so:
“Technically under the new measure, you could be walking down the street and you could be stopped and asked for your identification. If you don’t have it, you could be sent to jail.”
Now the supporters of the law says no, the cops will only stop people suspected of being here illegally. But how do you tell?
So I asked listeners for ideas, and I got a call from Walter:
“I know a lot of illegals. I’m Latino.”
He’s Latino, BUT he’s an American citizen. In fact he’s a US soldier. Who will not be going to Arizona:
“I’m very Latino looking. They’re going to stop me right away.”
So I asked Walter — is there ANY way to tell the difference between a legal Latino like you, and an illegal Latino — and he knew right away. Look for people who drive the speed limit:
“Being illegal, you don’t drive more than the speed. You drive at 50 miles.”
“So the peopple who are here illegally actually are more careful about obeying the traffic laws than you are?”
“Yeah.”
“So the way the cops could tell would be somebody who’s Latino looking and obeying the speed limit? That’s what you’re saying?”
“Yeah, that’s what I think.”
There it is. All the Arizona cops have to do is find Latino-looking people who seem to be obeying the law a little too well, and arrest them. Problem solved.
