If Bernie Sanders can’t handle a few protesters, he probably can’t handle ISIS

All Bernie Sanders wanted to do was carry on with his speech, but the Democratic presidential candidate fell to his opposition of the day: a few activists.

In front of a crowd of thousands, a few Black Lives Matter activists stormed the stage at Westlake Park and interrupted Sanders. Let’s reiterate: a few people stopped a presidential candidate from doing what he was there to do.

Now how do you suppose Sanders, if elected, would handle a more serious issue?

“If Bernie Sanders can’t handle a couple of Black Lives Matters protesters, good luck handling ISIS, or [Vladimir] Putin,” KIRO Radio’s Dori Monson said. “This guy showed what an ineffective leader he is.”

And how. Instead of continuing with the planned speech, Sanders and event organizers gave into the activists. The activists were allowed to take the stage and speak, which included four minutes of silence for Michael Brown and calling the crowd “white supremacist liberals.”

After about 20 minutes, Sanders attempted to take the microphone and was pushed away. The event was shut down and the presidential candidate moved on; he later spoke to a crowd of about 12,000 at the University of Washington.

The reason Sanders chose to walk away, as opposed to taking the microphone back, was to maintain his image, Dori explained. Sanders has focused on issues with the middle class, climate change and criminal justice reform.

“It’s because image is more important than anything for socialists,” Dori said. “Socialists, they just want everyone to know they are part of the tribe. Arresting two black women wouldn’t look good for his image.”

That’s the nature of politics. In this case, it may have been better to just give in, even if it meant disappointing thousands of potential supporters.

“There’s no way he can run the United States,” Dori announced.
