If comedian and actor Joel McHale had to choose between the birth of his children and raising the 12th Man flag at CenturyLink Field, which was more exciting?

“I don’t know how someone goes up there and casually raises it and then goes, ‘There you go folks. Enjoy the game,’” McHale recently told KIRO Radio’s Dori Monson. “It was possibly one of the greatest moments of my life. The birth of my children and getting married to my wife are up there, but that was exciting.”

“Could I combine them?” he asked. “Raise my newborn up the Seahawks flagpole in front of that truck there, and then drive the truck off the ledge with the new kid and somehow land it?”

“I don’t know, this is a real drug-induced fantasy,” he added.

McHale memories

Speaking of drug-induced fantasies, McHale, a Mercer Island native, recalls his time getting to know Dori. Both were once on a recreational basketball league based out of Green Lake.

“Everyone knows you were a horrible crack addict for a while,” McHale said.

“I remember when Dori was doing weather and news,” he said. “Way back when. He would sit there, have nine or 11 doughnuts. Then he would read the news, have a couple cigarettes, and then go play basketball for 6.5 hours. My hero.”

The comedian may be joking. After all, it is what he does for a living. His new show on Netflix, “The Joel McHale” debuted last week.
