King County Sheriff’s Office bans non-essential travel, sheriff travels to Boston

Oct 8, 2021, 2:34 PM | Updated: 3:12 pm

Employees and officers with the King County Sheriff’s Office were recently told that all non-essential work-related travel “should be cancelled at this time” via an email, sent by the undersheriff.

“This includes previously approved travel,” the email states.

Essential travel is permitted for fully vaccinated employees, but must be approved prior to travel. Travel is deemed essential, per the email, “if it is required to support critical life, health, and safety functions and cannot be delayed or handled remotely.”

However, this rule doesn’t seem to apply to the King County Sheriff herself. Sources told KIRO Radio’s Dori Monson Show that Sheriff Mitzi Johanknecht spoke on a panel last week in Boston. A program from the event lists Johanknecht’s name as a panelist.

Multiple sources confirmed to the Dori Monson Show that the sheriff attended the conference in mid-September. The Dori Monson Show expects a statement from the sheriff’s office on Monday.
