McGinn: The voters have spoken, and they say they want us to move ahead

Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn has conceded defeat in a battle over a tunnel to replace the city’s Alaskan Way Viaduct, after 60 percent of voters voted in favor of the tunnel on Tuesday.

McGinn came on 97.3 KIRO FM’s Ross and Burbank Show to discuss what he thinks of the voters’ decision.

“What I wanted to do was get things like the issue of cost overruns addressed before we went to work, and what I heard from the public is they want us to sign the agreements with the state and they want us to proceed with the project, and we’ll deal with the issues as they arise,” said McGinn. “The people have spoken. We put in front of them all of the risks and concerns and they have said, ‘We want to move ahead with this project.’ And that’s what we’re going to do.”
