Pharmacies and doctors’ offices in Washington state will remain open under Gov. Jay Inslee’s stay-at-home order. If you are unable to or don’t want to leave your home, there are ways to safely get new and refilled prescriptions delivered to your door.

While doctors are still offering in-person care when necessary, almost all doctors’ offices, including UW Medicine and Kaiser Permanente, have implemented a form of telehealth. This offers the capacity for nurses and doctors to deliver health care virtually for non-urgent cases via chat, email, phone, or video.

If you’re feeling symptoms of COVID-19 (fever, coughing, shortness of breath), call your doctor first. Medical professionals can determine if you should be tested for COVID-19. For most people, the symptoms will be mild and can be treated by staying at home.

For those interested in getting an early refill on their daily medications, call your local pharmacy to find out if your prescriptions are eligible.

Below is a list of major pharmacies and the services they’re offering customers at this time:

Bartell Drugs online pharmacy allows customers to refill and transfer prescriptions as needed. Their website requests you contact your insurance company before requesting extra refills during this state of emergency. To find drive-thru locations, visit the store locator on their website. You can also order groceries through Bartell Drugs with Instacart.

CVS Pharmacy is offering free delivery of prescriptions and home essentials. You can fill your prescription online or call your local CVS to get started. Home delivery is available through Instacart. Contact your CVS Pharmacy to see if your prescriptions are eligible for early refills and 90-day supplies.

Kaiser Permanente

Kaiser Permanente patients can get their prescriptions delivered at home by mail by ordering them by phone, through their personal online portal, or through the Kaiser Permanente app.

Walgreens has waived delivery fees for all eligible prescriptions, and has a pharmacy drive-thru at many of their locations in the U.S. and Washington state. You can also purchase select products at the drive-thru. Additionally, Walgreens offers a 24/7 “Pharmacy Chat” online and on the Walgreens app.

Rite Aid says: “some orders may take several weeks to deliver. We significantly increased our staffing levels to fill online orders faster. We also established online purchase limits on certain items to ensure that the most products are available to the greatest number of customers. Please know if you order online, we will reserve those items specifically for you and will deliver them as soon as possible. If you need items sooner, please check your local store for availability. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we continue to work on replenishing merchandise and fulfilling orders.”

Amazon Pharmacy also offers free delivery services, and you only pay for the medication. You can sign up for PillPack to receive your medications monthly, sorted by date and time. Their website says they’ll also include other pharmacy essentials, like an inhaler.

Many grocery stores also offer pharmacy services. Call ahead to find out how to set up payment and delivery services, or to schedule refills.

Visit your pharmacy website or call your local pharmacy to find more information on available services.
