WHAT ARE WE TALKING ABOUT HERE — In the big reveal scene in “The Wizard of Oz,” the Emerald City learns that behind all the pomp, bluster, and boasting there’s just a small man desperately trying to stay in control by pulling all the levers of distraction.

Sound familiar? We have a leader in our Emerald City, Ed Murray, who said it the best: “Either you’re looking at a serial pedophile or this is a big political take down.”

It seems like we now have our answer to that question. What are we talking about here?

We’re talking about either believing the confessions of a damaged, scared 13-year-old that comes alive in the latest document that was long thought destroyed, or the increasingly unbelievable denials of a mayor desperately trying to stay in control by pulling all Seattle’s levers of distraction. And Murray has pulled a few levers.

“But look, police reform with body cameras.”

“Look, rainbow crosswalks.”

“Check out my new navigation center.”

“The city would grind to a halt without me.”

Really? That last argument, presented in a press release on Monday, is the most laughable. Nearly everyone denies wrong doing when they are caught, but it takes a special kind of hubris to ask us to continue to indulge your ego on your way out.

You think this city would grind to a halt without you. Poor little man. You’re just not that important. We’ll be just fine. Trust me.

When deciding on a situation like this, I’ve always relied on Occam’s razor. It’s a problem-solving principle that says: Among competing hypotheses, the one with the fewest assumptions should be selected.

So who should we believe? A professional investigation by Child Protective Services that concluded a boy was abused, or the man behind the curtain yelling about a vast right wing conspiracy?

It’s time to pull back the curtain and escort this man out of the Emerald City.

WHAT ARE WE TALKING ABOUT HERE airs every day on the Ron and Don Show at 4:50 and 6:50 p.m.
