The Washington State Attorney General’s office has filed misdemeanor charges against Pierce County Sheriff Ed Troyer. He’s charged with one count of false reporting, and one count of making a false or misleading statement to a public servant.

Troyer tells KIRO Radio’s Dori Monson Show of the AG filing misdemeanor charges, “nobody has ever heard of it, let alone seen it.”

Dori maintains that once the governor gets involved, the outcome is pre-determined.

“That night, everyone figured it was over,” Troyer said.

He added that he didn’t know a report was written until a few months later.

Troyer said he supports a fair and independent investigation, but claims the charges from the AG are neither.

“It was definitely targeted and looking for a way to file criminal charges from day one,” he said. “I was told that and I knew this was coming, so this is no surprise.”

Troyer said he hasn’t had a complaint in 37 years, vowing to he’ll hang on and fight because he doesn’t want this to happen to anyone else.

If Troyer is convicted, the standard sentencing range for both offenses, with no prior criminal history, is up to 364 days in jail and up to a $5,000 fine.

Sedrick Altheimer, 24, was delivering newspapers on January 27, 2021 around 2 a.m. when he noticed a white SUV following him in a Tacoma neighborhood. Altheimer had a conversation with Troyer when Altheimer approached the Troyer’s window.

The conversation escalated and 14 law enforcement officers and deputies arrived at the scene. According to charging documents, Troyer had reported that Altheimer had made threats to kill him.

Altheimer was released at the scene after allowing police to search his car, where it was confirmed that he was indeed delivering newspapers on his normal route.

No injuries were reported in the incident.

“I’m going to take it all the way because this is targeted, it’s about control,” Troyer said. “And it’s about other issues than what happened and that’s exactly why I’m going to fight it.”

Listen to the Dori Monson Show weekday afternoons from noon – 3 p.m. on KIRO Radio, 97.3 FM. Subscribe to the podcast here.
