Ron: Seahawks are ‘mediocre’ and ‘pedestrian’

While conversations following the Seahawks-Lions game have focused on K.J. Wright’s batted ball, KIRO Radio’s Ron and Don believe that another more important point is being missed.
Ron Upshaw doesn’t think the Seahawks have what it takes to go all the way this season.
“It’s fun to get into the minutia of that rule, but … the take-away for me is that we are just not a very good football team,” he said. “We’re doing very well on defense. The defense is doing its part.”

“Our offensive line is horrible. This is not a championship-caliber team,” Ron said. “We need to come to terms with the window that has closed, unless something dramatic happens the rest of the season. It is very rare a championship window opens. The window is closed.”
Both Ron and Don O’Neill agree that the Seahawks’ defense is solid. No concern there. The two disagreed slightly on quarterback Russell Wilson, however.
“I’m not down on Russell Wilson, I think he’s doing more than his fair share…” Ron said.
“He’s doing a lot more fumbling, there’s no doubt about that,” Don quickly added.
And Don couldn’t let Ron off the hook for calling it quits so early.
“I think mentally they’re in a better place this year than they were last year,” Don said. “It’s too early in the season. You can’t know what rank you are.”
But Ron’s opinion stuck.
“When you just have the eyeball test, and you watch the elite teams in the league, when you watch Green Bay’s offensive run, when you watch the Patriot’s offense run … we’re not even in the same tier. Our defensive certainly is,” he said.
“I’m very frustrated with this team right now. I think we are what our record says we are. We are a 500 mediocre football team right now. We are a pedestrian football team right now.”
In the end, Ron doesn’t think the Seahawks are as strong as other teams in the league. And despite positives, such as a strong defense, he had to force Don to admit as much.
“Do you think we are a good football team right now?” Ron pressed.
“…No,” Don responded.
