Seattle’s music scene gets more than its fair share of the spotlight Thursday night as the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame welcomes local legends Heart and Quincy Jones at the annual induction ceremony and concert in Los Angeles.

It’s a long awaited honor for Heart and sister’s Ann and Nancy Wilson. Nancy told me in a recent interview with Seattle Sounds she was beginning to wonder if it would ever actually happen after not getting the nod multiple times.

“We’re thrilled beyond compare, because it’s really an acknowledgement of all the hard work we’ve put into it for so long.”

The Wilson’s are getting the whole original Heart gang together, with guitarist Roger Fisher, bassist Steven Fossen, drummer Mike Derosier and keyboardist Howard Leese slated to take the stage along with Pearl Jam’s Mike McCready and Alice in Chains’ Jerry Cantrell ripping through several of the band’s biggest hits. Soundgarden’s Chris Cornell will induct them.

Seattle native Quincy Jones will receive the Ahmet Ertegun Award for Lifetime Achievement. It’s certainly well deserved, given his five decades of performing and producing, winning a record 79 Grammy awards and teaming with everyone from Ray Charles to Michael Jackson.

Unfortunately, those of us not lucky enough to score a ticket to the ceremony will have to wait until it’s broadcast on HBO Saturday May 18.
