Shower Thoughts: NFL policies; Trump’s Twitter in court; and the Space Needle

Let’s do our last Shower Thoughts before the Memorial Day break, shall we?
NFL anthem policy
This new anthem policy by the NFL is a joke. They could have collectively bargained a new rule like the NBA did. Instead, the owners just voted on something that doesn’t solve any of the underlying issues and looks heavy handed. It’s also very hard to overlook the racial overtones to how this went down.

You have a collection of white billionaires telling a workplace that’s at least 75 percent black and brown men to stay in their place. Congratulations NFL, you just threw gas on this fire. Doesn’t forcing someone to stand at attention undermine the entire concept of pledging allegiance by free will?
Trump’s Twitter in court
A Washington state woman successfully sued the president for blocking her on Twitter. The presiding federal judge ruled that Trump’s Twitter feed is a “designated public forum.” Therefore, he’s not allowed to block people and be the president at the same time. What a strange time we live in. It’s hard to imagine Abraham Lincoln or Teddy Roosevelt having a Twitter feed.
New Space Needle view
The new all glass observation deck on the Space Needle opens today. It’s $26 a person to freak yourself out. It’s hard for me to tell with all the construction gear up there, but I hope that they didn’t modify the silhouette of the Space Needle. It’s so iconic, I hope they didn’t change the shape up top for a few extra dollars a year. That would be like adding a glass ball to the side of the Eiffel Tower.
Way to go Seattle
We did it! Seattle is the fastest growing big city in all of the United States. While I don’t think we should have a parade or anything, we will all have to keep an open mind and adjust what Seattle means to each of us. So if you are in the hyper nostalgic camp, you are in for a lot of misery if you choose to hang on to how things use to be. Embracing change is hard, but things are going to continue to change at a rapid clip. Old Seattle is gone and is not coming back. Just ask the 114,000 new residents.
Hockey
I’m not a huge hockey fan, but the fact that the Las Vegas Golden Knights are in the Stanley Cup finals in their first year has to be the sports story of the year. The new team got the cast offs from all the other teams and spun it up to a finals appearance in their first year. It’s nothing short of amazing.
Big Brothers
Finally, shout out to my Little from the Big Brothers program. He’s been trying to break into the professional photography game, and his hard work paid off. He was wearing a press badge and shooting photos at the Taylor Swift show the other day. Nice work, I’m proud of you.
