Tacoma Teacher Mike Jankanish responds to op-ed criticism

Mar 19, 2019, 12:52 PM | Updated: 12:55 pm

Tacoma Teacher Mike Jankanish teaches history at Wilson High School. He recently came under fire for an op-ed he wrote that was published in the Tacoma News Tribune.

Jankanish argues that diversity education runs counter to historic American ideals — that out of many come one. While he says people are free to celebrate their heritage, there must be a cohesive, common American identity. He spoke with the Dori Monson Show about why he wrote what he did, and the harsh criticism he received in the wake of the op-ed.
