The war against a nativity scene in Gig Harbor

The Freedom From Religion Foundation threatened the City of Gig Harbor with legal action over a nativity scene on public property. (secrettenerife.co.uk)

On a local front, there was a headline from KING 5 that I can’t stand. I usually think KING 5 does a really good job — but not this time. The headline was “Nativity Scene (in Gig Harbor) Raising Legal Concerns.”

Gig Harbor residents urge ‘Don’t Hate, Celebrate’

Now, what is happening is that the Wisconsin based Freedom From Religion Foundation is saying that Gig Harbor’s nativity display is unconstitutional. And the City of Gig Harbor was advised by its lawyers to not to put up the display this year due to possible lawsuits.

But the headline is false: this did not raise “legal concerns.” This raised an opportunity for people who agitate against the season and Christianity itself.

Does this group agitate against Islam? Michael Medved noted he doesn’t think they do agitate against Islam (but part of that may be because Muslims aren’t putting up displays).

The founding fathers brought prayer into Congress. And there were religious skeptics that existed among the founding fathers. But how can we say that the men who wrote the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence would find a nativity scene to be religious persecution or state sponsorship of religion?

The founders brought prayer into the Congress!

Michael asked me on my show, “What do you think Jefferson meant when, in the most famous words in American history, he said ‘all men are created equal?’ Who’s the creator?”

As always, please listen to the full audio clip for complete context.
