Woman marries Seattle building under demolition

Jan 30, 2012, 8:47 AM | Updated: 8:54 am

About two dozen people attended the wedding celebrating the union of a woman and a Seattle building over the weekend.

Babylonia Aivaz tied the knot with the 10th and Union Warehouse in Seattle’s Capitol Hill neighborhood, which is already in the process of being demolished to make way for a new apartment building.

“Yes, I’m in love with a 107 year old building!,” wrote Aivaz on the wedding invite page on Facebook.

Aivaz writes that her relationship with the building began when she and a group of around 200 occupied the warehouse claiming it as a community space.

According to the SeattlePI.com, a couple protestors attended the Sunday afternoon event holding signs “Marriage is between 2 people” and “It’s not a gay union.” Aivaz has called the marriage a same-sex union because the building is female.
