Techie condoms can report location where they were used

Where are people using condoms in the Northwest? High-tech condoms handed out by Planned Parenthood are allowing people to share that info.

KOMO TV reports condoms with a QR code are being handed out at local colleges and universities.

Users can scan the code to "check in" the location they used the condom. The location then appears on a map along with other locations condoms were used.

Even without the special QR-coded condom, people can check in the location where they used a condom through a form at the website.

Planned Parenthood assures users the exact address isn't stored and the location is mapped somewhere "close by in the neighborhood so your special spot stays secret."

"Sex that safe, should be shared," says the Planned Parenthood Where Did You Wear It website.

    I agree with Kings Son ...What is your problem? This is the biggest waist of tax payer money i've ever heard. It's no ones business where these things are used. and it has nothing to do with politics!

    I have no problem with a disagreement on the issues, but manufacturing facts isn't acceptable. Much of Planned Parenthood's funding comes from private fundraising and unless there is evidence to the contrary, we need to assume the funding comes from those sources. Also, creating a QR code costs nothing (I have a free app on my phone that will create them) and web site Maintance is a negligible portion of an orginazations budget, I don't see how this costs as much as annual expenditures on office coffee.

    I was just going to ask where it says this is a 'study' funded with tax payers dollars. I went to the website and read the disclaimer and where as I wouldn't use it, I can see where college age kids would use it. The fact is, sex happens(like they say in the disclaimer). I'd rather see that people are being safe.

    Please show us where the facts are regarding the money Susan G Komen Foundation gave to Planned Parenthood is being used for this? Again.. get the information correct before going off all half cocked. I swear this country would be so much better off if people got the facts CORRECT before spreading misinformation. It happens ALL THE TIME and it's annoying. And if you don't want to see where condoms are being worn, don't log into the website, it's that simple!

    Don't be obtuse. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to understand that when Komen gives X dollars to PPH this will free up an equal number of dollars for PPH to waste on "high-tech condoms". With the recent dust up over funding we now know that Komen is providing funds to PPH, which is why I'll never give another dollar to Komen.
