Kercher family won’t take a cent from Knox

Meredith Kercher’s father says he won’t take a cent from the Knox family.

There were reports over the weekend that although freed from an Italian prison and back home with her family in Seattle, Amanda Knox could face a $12 million civil lawsuit brought on by the victim’s family.

KNOX Knox supporters believe that Rudy Guede was the only person responsible for Kercher’s murder. They believe, and the court agreed, that Guede killed her in a drug-induced sex game. Kercher’s body was discovered in a pool of blood in the apartment she shared with Knox.

Guede is currently behind bars in an Italian prison. Knox and her former boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito were acquitted of murder charges earlier this month. Knox returned to Seattle October 4th.

The Kercher family was reportedly waiting for the Italian court’s explanation of the verdict before proceeding with a civil suit.

“Once we’ve got the reasons behind the decisions for this one, then we can understand why they have been acquitted of it and work toward finding those who are responsible,” she’s quoted as telling the press in Perugia last week.

But today Kercher’s father tells The Sun, a UK newspaper, he would never accept a penny from Knox. And he blasted any attempt to profit from Meridith’s death with a book or movie deal.

“I find it distasteful that Knox stands to make millions from what happened to Meredith. I don’t think anyone should make money out of it – not us, not them,” John Kercher tells the paper.

Kercher says he and his family are backing an Italian supreme court appeal, seeking to overturn the acquittal of Knox and Sollecito. He says that’s based on evidence presented that Guede did not act alone.
