A Seattle restaurant is reinventing itself for one night only on April Fool’s Day.

LloydMartin owner Sam Crannell tells KIRO Radio’s Let’s Eat they’re calling the night “diversion,” which is the Spanish translation for “fun.”

Crannell picked Spanish food because he says it’s just fun, especially when served tapas style.

“In tapas style it’s something that’s about conversation as much as it is about the food.”

To get ready, Crannell and Chef Dan Matthiesen went to the Spanish Table store to pick up supplies. Crannell says they purchased a good deal of Spanish-style serving dishes to add authenticity to the special food to be served April 1.

“It really is building a whole new restaurant for one night, that’s the way we’re looking at it.”

Crannell says they built the restaurant with an emphasis on being open to whatever new things they wanted to try.

“There’s no part of the world that is off base. Anything we want to do, we’re totally open to as long as it comes out well.”

The details of the April Fool’s plan so far are under wraps, but a full menu will be available the week of the event. Crannell says they’re expecting at least 12 tapas dishes, ranging from $3 to $12. Crannell would not confirm or deny the rumor they’ll serve a lime margarita in an actual lime.

“You can expect a really fun night,” says Crannell. While LloydMartin usually accepts reservations, they will not April 1.

“Tapas bars don’t have reservations and it’s a much more casual feel,” says Crannell. “We’re going to embody every idea behind that, that we can for that one night.”

Learn more about Diversion as they release new details on the LloydMartin website.
