A person died in a car crash on I-5 Wednesday morning after their car caught on fire.

The crash occurred on I-5 near Grand Mound, according to the Washington State Patrol (WSP). WSP troopers pulled the person from the car, but they died at the scene.

“It has been verified that the vehicle involved in this collision only had a single occupant,” Trooper Kameron Watts stated.

Additionally, a semi-truck struck a firetruck that was responding to the scene. No injuries resulted from that collision.

“All personnel on scene are safe with no reports of injuries from the fire engine-semi truck collision,” Watts added.

Multiple lanes of northbound I-5 were closed due to the crash, but all northbound lanes on I-5 have reopened by approximately 8 a.m. Still, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT), there is a backup lasting several miles. The cause of the car crash has not been determined, as of this reporting.
