One person died after a plane crashed in a remote part of Olympic National Park Tuesday evening, National Park Service officials confirmed.

There were three people aboard the plane when it crashed in the southwest part of the park. All three were transported to a Level 1 trauma center, where one person died. The other two were injured as a result of the crash.

“Around 6:50 p.m. on July 15, park rangers were notified of the crash in the Quinault area of Olympic National Park,” the National Park Service wrote in a press release. “The crash site is on a forested, steep slope north of the Irely Lake Trailhead.”

Rangers coordinated with Naval Air Station Whidbey Island Search and Rescue to help with the rescue.

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the cause of the plane crash. The plane was a Murphy SR3500 Moose.
