Ross: Was President Trump’s tweet really just a typo?

Last Friday, former FBI Director James Comey was testifying before Congress again, prompting President Trump to tweet “Democrats can’t find a Smocking Gun tying the Trump campaign to Russia after James Comey’s testimony. No Smocking Gun…No Collusion.”

That prompted Washington Post columnist Eugene Robinson to ask  “What has the president been ‘Smocking’?”

And the staff of Merriam-Webster’s posted a tweet reminding us that “smocking” is a decorative embroidery made by gathering cloth.

They assume the president meant “smoking” and that “smocking” was a typo.

But is this true? A typo is when your finger just misses the desired letter.

However in the word “smocking,” the keyboard location of the erroneous “C” is nowhere near the “O” that precedes it, nor the “K” that follows it. Moreover, he uses the word twice and makes the exact same typo.

This is not a typo. He is either deliberately referring to a gathered garment worn by 19th century farmers – or somewhere in his mind, there was perhaps another word using the “c-k” combination, which was struggling to come out.

And so, given that the president, by his own admission, has a very large brain, I must conclude this was on purpose, and once again the media is creating a lot of negative covfefe over c’nothing.
