A simple shopping errand turned into an assault by a knife-wielding man on I-5 last weekend — and the road rager is still on the loose.

“We just got back from going to the mall; (we were) shopping for some birthday stuff for my mother-in-law,” Lisa Fisher told KIRO Radio’s Dori Monson.

It was a full car, with Fisher in the back seat along with her fiance and her dog. Her mom was driving and her brother was in the front seat. They missed their intended exit and had to take the next one off of I-5 at 236th Street in Mountlake Terrace.

That’s when a man driving a red Honda got too close for comfort.

“This red car popped up from nowhere … he was tailgating us pretty badly and trying to pass us,” Fisher said. “Once we got to the stop light, there are two turn lanes that turn left so we both turned left. He floored it, got in front of us and slammed on his brakes … my mom went around him in a turn lane to go back onto I-5 south.”

“We have no idea (what set him off),” she said. “We didn’t see him anywhere on the freeway until we were getting off the exit.”

But the unknown driver’s antics didn’t stop there. He attempted to drive past them again but ended up being squished between Fisher’s car and the curb. The two cars stopped. Fisher’s fiance left the car to confront the driver, who got out of his car, too — with a knife.

“The guy got out of the car with a knife and tried to stab (my fiance),” Fisher said. “He continued to stab all the windows … after he stabbed the first passenger-side window, he tried to stab my dog who was trying to protect us.”

The man smashed three windows while Fisher’s mom was calling 911.

“It was really scary,” Fisher said. “I didn’t think he was going to do something like that. And I thought, ‘The windows are too strong, there’s no way a knife is going to break them.’ He ended up breaking them with a knife.”

The man got back into his car and sped off. Police are looking for the suspect. He is described as a white male in his late 20s or early 30s, with sandy brown hair, about 5-foot-8-inches tall and stocky, according to Fisher. She also noted that the man had a tan that made it seem as if he worked outside a lot. Police are asking anyone with helpful information to contact them.

The license plate number provided to detectives led to a car that belonged to an Orting woman whose phone number is disconnected.
