Who were the other victims in Cafe Racer massacre?

Jun 1, 2012, 5:44 AM | Updated: 8:56 am

Two of the victims in the Cafe Racer murders were popular
musicians and performers. But what do we know about the
two other people killed inside the coffee shop?

The first two victims, identified by friends shortly after
the shooting as Drew Keriakedes, 49, and Joe Albanese, 52,
were old-time musicians and regulars at the cafe, where
they often played or simply held court.

The other two victims were not immediately identified,
but news sources are now releasing the first details about
the two.

Kimberly Layfield, 36, and 57-year-old Donald Largen were
also reportedly regulars at Cafe Racer. They both lived
within walking distance of their favorite hang out.

The Seattle Times
reports
Largen was an urban planner who played the
saxophone. He moved here from Wisconsin as a teen and
went to Shorecrest High School and the University of
Washington.

Layfield was a transplant too, coming to Seattle from
Georgia after school in Vermont.

Layfield had lived in Seattle for 10 years, her aunt
Sheilah Holland said. Holland said Layfield returned to
Seattle on Monday after spending three weeks at home with
family and friends to celebrate her grandmother Freda
Cochran’s 103rd birthday.

The Times reports Layfield was an aspiring actress who
also worked as a dental assistant.

Holland tells the Times that Layfield really enjoyed
spending time at the cafe.

“They were a very artsy group, and she just really enjoyed
going there,” she said.

Four people were fatally shot in the shooting rampage at
the cafe. One woman was also killed by shooting suspect
Ian Stawicki a short time later in downtown Seattle.

The lone wounded survivor from the cafe, Leonard Meuse,
remains at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle where he
was recently upgraded from critical to serious condition.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
