Vegas shooter was most law-abiding killer in US history

The Las Vegas shooter seems to have been the most law-abiding killer in American history, right down to his bump stocks — the attachment that makes a single-shot assault weapon fire more like a machine gun.

Cable anchors seem shocked by this because they thought that it wasn’t legal for ordinary people to buy automatic weapons.

Well, in most cases, it isn’t legal for ordinary people to buy automatic weapons. But a weapon with a bump stock isn’t considered an automatic weapon. That’s because the bump stock simply makes the weapon jiggle back and forth. It’s your finger resting on the trigger that actually fires the shots. So technically, it’s you firing at 10 rounds per second.

Because it’s your finger doing the firing, it’s completely legal as long as you don’t hurt anybody.

And bump stocks are not intended to hurt anybody.

Here’s the ad for the SlideFire SSAR-15. It says “Caution, Known to Cause Uncontrollable Smiling.” There is no intent to hurt anyone.

The owner of the gun store who sold the shooter some of the weapons say “We obviously did not sell him these firearms with the intent that he would hurt anybody in any way.”

Truly a father-son bonding moment — and all legal. It is a little noisy, but not to worry, Congress is considering a bill lifting restrictions on silencers. Although I hear it’s been delayed, for some reason.
