Bicyclist killed in hit-and-run crash in Seattle’s Rainier Beach

Feb 26, 2019, 8:25 AM

Seattle police say a cyclist was killed in hit-and-run crash in the Rainier Beach neighborhood on Monday afternoon.

At 4:50 p.m., officers responded after a report that a white sedan had struck a cyclist in the 9200 block of Rainier Avenue South at Sturtevant Street, across the street from Safeway, and drove away.

Investigators said the man died at the scene.

Police said witnesses saw the bicyclist trying to cross Rainier Avenue South when he was hit.

The man’s shoes were found about 60 feet apart. Detectives are hoping paint transfer from the car will help them find the driver.

Investigators are also hoping survillence cameras from a nearby KeyBank may have recorded the car driving by.

Police are searching for the driver and a white sedan with extensive damage to its front end and windshield.

The man who was killed was the third pedestrian or cyclist to be killed by a car in King County since Friday, and the seventh person hit by a car in our area in less than two months. Four people were killed in hit-and-runs just in the last 30 days.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call 206-625-5011.
