Think cars are secure in parking garages? Think again.

The amount of burglaries from secure parking attached to apartments and condos is increasing.

Reported burglaries in downtown Seattle, Capitol Hill, Queen Anne and around Lake Union is on an upward trend, according to the Seattle Police Department.

Between January and June, there have been 195 burglaries in secure parking lots.

High-density neighborhoods have the tightest groupings of burglaries, with the thefts spreading out as density decreases.

Burglaries from parking garages is part of an upward trend of residential burglaries citywide. There was a 4 percent year-to-date increase in residential burglary up through July 4, compared to 2014. Since the beginning of the year, there have been 2,659 burglaries reported in 2015 &#8212 with 466 in the last 28 days.

Non-residential burglaries in the city is up 1 percent over this time last year, according to the police department.

Property crimes overall, however, are down compared to last year. There were 20,808 reported property crimes, between January and July 4, 2014. Since January of this year, 18,038 property crimes have been reported.
